Iceland Elopement Packages
How to find the right package & how to avoid common mistakes
You are recently engaged and you have seen all the incredible elopement photos from Iceland all over social media and you fell in love with the idea of getting married in Iceland. And now you're trying to figure out how to make this idea a reality, but there are so many options and you're feeling confused and unsure of your next steps. Am I right? I'm here to help you to make sure that you will get the most out of your elopement and avoid common mistakes.
Below I'm going to list the most important things to consider when choosing your Iceland elopement package.
Planning your elopement
First of all, you need to think about how simple or exclusive you would like your elopement to be and based on that decide if you might need a wedding planner.
Some people love planning while others would prefer to outsource it. If you're not into planning, then your first step should be contacting one of the wedding planners in Iceland and they will help you with the entire experience.
If you're ok with arranging and planning your elopement together with your photographer and taking care of the paperwork yourself, then your first step should be to find a photographer.
Find a local photographer
Finding a local photographer or a photographer who has spent a lot of time in Iceland is crucial. Iceland is not like other places in the world due to its unpredictable and extreme weather that can change very quickly. Sometimes, you just need to drive for half an hour to get away from a storm! You need a photographer who understands how the weather in Iceland works in order to have the best possible experience for your elopement.
I've personally seen couples in Iceland suffering in their wedding attire due to inclement weather when I knew that if they had just waited a couple of hours, they could have had much better weather for their photos.
Many times I've needed to switch things around in the timeline for my clients once the hourly weather forecast was available so we would avoid inclement weather. So many of my clients have thanked me for making these last-minute changes to their timelines so they could enjoy the experience.
Here are some other reasons why you would need a local photographer:
- Lighting - a local will know when the lighting is best and most flattering for photos at your chosen locations
- Iceland is very popular and crowded! If you would like to have a very private elopement experience, a local would be able to suggest you some great off-the-beaten-path locations or the best times to visit the popular locations to avoid crowds
Locations
Photographers will charge differently for different locations depending on how far they need to drive from their home. Normally, the further away from Reykjavik your dream location is, the more expensive it will be.
Here is what I would recommend you to do:
- Decide if you'd like to get married at a location that you perhaps have seen photos of and decided that it was your dream location or if you would prefer an unknown, quite location
- Reach out to different photographers to find out how much they charge for your dream location or if they can recommend you some locations you've never heard of that you might like even more
Some of the popular location in Iceland are absolutely stunning, but you need to visit them at the right time of the day to avoid the crowds. Make sure that your photographer can help you with planning that.
